SportsAble volunteer: Verity Morgan
NAME: Verity Morgan
SECTION THAT I VOLUNTEER IN: Swimming
LOCATION: SportsAble's swimming session at the Magnet Leisure Centre, Maidenhead
How long have you been a volunteer?
I have been a volunteer since the beginning of November 2009.
What kind of things do you do as a volunteer?
We help people to swim and encourage them to become more confident in the water.
How much of your time do you have to give?
2 hours a week, from 8 until 10 on a Sunday evening, although this sometimes varies.
What kind of skills/training do you need?
You don't really need any particular training... but you do need to be a fairly adequate swimmer.
Why do you volunteer?
Because I have been swimming regularly since the age of 5 and have always loved water, even as a baby.
I think it is a great idea to use your interests and strengths to help others within the community. It is a fun way to spend a Sunday evening, as well as a rewarding one.
What would you say to someone who wanted to become a SportsAble volunteer?
Go for it! You get to spend time helping others, having fun, and having a rewarding experience.
There's nothing to say that is the slightest bit bad about becoming a volunteer for SportsAble, so why not?
